Throughout 2020, the coronavirus pandemic swept the nation and, indeed, the world. To battle the virus, most Governments placed their countries into strict national lockdowns. At the start of 2021, the UK is in its third national lockdown because of the pandemic.
Whilst we have been stuck in lockdown, many people have decided to take up new hobbies to de-stress, to keep them busy, or to take their mind off the world outside. However, why not take the opportunity of being at home all the time to start on some home improvement. Here are some simple home improvement ideas to keep you busy in the lockdown.
1. Home office
When it comes to home improvement in lockdown, potentially the most obvious would be to make a home office. This year, the majority of the world has been forced into lockdown, thrusting us head first into remote working and a new daily routine. One thing that must be said is that working from home can be tough, as it can be hard to differentiate between the time that you are at work, and the time you are with your family.
To make sure that you make the most of your downtime, a home office can be the perfect step. This will give you a separate space, which is used for no other purpose, allowing you to ‘turn on’ your work brain when you enter in the morning, and switch it off when you walk out at night.
2. Board your loft
When it comes to space which is under-utilised, the largest might be hiding just under your roof. Your loft can be made into a great storage space for all those things you have cleared out of your room during the lockdowns. Packages like loft boarding from Instaloft are bespoke, surveying your space for free, and only doing what you need, which is great for your wallet.
You can also look at other unused space that could be utilised. Most houses, especially older examples, tend to have nooks and crannies that are a weird shape or size. This means it might not fit a traditional cupboard, door, or set of drawers. Instead, use the time at home to come up with a creative solution to really utilise the storage space which is waiting to be used.
3. Make an outdoor haven
Being stuck inside can really affect your mental health. Therefore, during lockdown, make sure to get at least some time outside. Though rules might apply for outdoor exercise, you can still make a space in your garden or attached to your home which allows you to get some fresh air.
Whether it is a partially enclosed space, a deck ready for summer, or a firepit for you to use during the winter months, create yourself a safe haven in the great outdoors for you to enjoy safely.
So, whilst we are all sat at home for most of the day, why not turn your hand to some of these simple home improvement ideas to keep yourself busy during the lockdown.
