The state of Israel excels in fence building. It has built a so-called “security barrier” on the occupied West Bank that steals an additional 8% of Palestinian land. The people of Gaza are entrapped by another Israeli wall (and Egypt has built another wall entrapping Gaza and is now planning to build an additional wall that will go deeply underground designed to block tunnels for which Gazans import 70% of their food from – a wall called a “Wall of Shame” by Arabs).
And now Israel is planning a $1.5billion wall along its Sinai border with Egypt:
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday ordered to construct a fence at a cost of NIS 1.5 billion along two segments of Israel’s border with Egypt, in an attempt to stem the infiltration of migrant workers as well as of terrorist elements into Israel.
“I took the decision to close Israel’s southern border to infiltrators and terrorists. This is a strategic decision to secure Israel’s Jewish and democratic character,” Netanyahu said in a statement.
This is not about any dispute with Egypt – both nations are closer than ever as Egypt now endorses Israeli attacks against Palestinians and is more subservient due to the hope of getting the U.S. to endorse the succession of tyrant Mubarack with his Playboy son Gamal.
Instead, this is about African refugees who attempt to sneak into Israel through the Sinai corridor. The desert landscape is incredibly difficult to monitor, and Egypt does not watch over all of it (just like the U.S. cannot stop all illegal crossings from Mexico) and, for the record, thuggish Egyptian police have at times shot and killed these refugees.
Israel has accepted a handful of refugees, but none of them are Jewish so they are not welcomed. The nation seeks to encourage them to leave and is building a wall to make it in theory impossible for anymore to cross over.
“A light onto the nations”: The biggest BS in the Middle East. An ethnic supremacist state where someone’s faith is the primary judgment is the core of Israel – and that is why it is a racist and an apartheid state.
The rhetoric about terrorists crossing into Israel is bogus since there is no evidence that any “terrorists” have done so or may do so, and Israel has never complained about that previously. Israel just added that because it always uses the pretext of security to justify racist and cruel policies.
