Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen have called off their engagement. The couple first met on the set of their 2008 film Jumper and were officially engaged since December 2008. Though there are no details available, distance has been cited as one of the main reasons behind the breakup.

Reports surfaced a couple months ago that the duo were on a break, but now the split is permanent. “Yes, the engagement is off,” Bilson’s rep tells PEOPLE, but declined to provide details on the breakup. Distance was reportedly one of the main reasons for the split. With Bilson primarily in L.A., and Christensen in Canada, “It just wasn’t working out,” says a pal of the actress. Now Bilson is “focusing on her career, spending time with her family and just moving forward,” adds the friend.
I totally agree that distance did the job, or rather spoiled it, for Rachel and Hayden. No wonder Rachel can be seen all alone by herself most of the time. I also wonder how many people actually had the knowledge that these two were engaged for such a long period! Anyway, there’s no point in stretching a relationship when there’s no elasticity left.
