Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple was a batty old spinster, whose primary protection from being suspected of nosing around was that she was an old lady and therefore naturally curious. Jennifer Garner, not yet 39 years old, seems to be an unlikely choice to play this character. Yet, Miss Marple is the character she will portray in a forthcoming film. Disney’s interpretation will characterize Miss Marple as a much younger woman in the film.

According to NEWYORKPOST,

Jennifer Garner, the 38-year-old star best known for her work on “Alias,” is the surprise choice to play Agatha Christie’s super-sleuth Miss Marple in a forthcoming film, IGN reported Tuesday.
The character — immortalized in countless films and TV shows over the past 50 years — is traditionally an elderly woman, but Disney’s reboot will revolve around a much younger Marple cracking crimes.
According to Deadline.com, Mark Frost — who has experience with mysteries, having scripted much of David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks” — will write the script, while Garner will produce through her Vandalia Films company, with Disney overseeing the project.

For an actor who has played a CIA agent for 5 seasons, in Alias, this is a career progression of sorts. The Golden Globe awards of 2002 recognized her as “Best Actress in a Television Series ??? Drama”, for her performance in the first few episodes of Alias. Being stalked for about seven years may just have helped her become observant and careful enough, without seeming to be on the edge, to play Miss Marple convincingly. Will she be able to do it? Miss Marple has been portrayed again and again with great success, for over five decades. Jennifer Garner may just add a new dimension to the character. The only way to find out is to wait and watch!
