John Inman dies at 71

‘Are You Being Served?’ Star John Inman is no more. The actor took his last breath in hospital where he died early on Thursday, aged 71.

Inman, died in St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, west London, at 4 am after being ill for some time, his manager Phil Dale confirmed.

Dale said,

John, through his character Mr. Humphries of Are You Being Served? was known and loved throughout the world.

He was one of the best and finest pantomime dames working to capacity audiences throughout Britain.

John was known for his comedy plays and farces, which were enjoyed from London’s West End throughout the country and as far as Australia, Canada and the USA.

Inman suffered hepatitis A and was taken to hospital for tests after having problems with his liver.

Inman was also best known for his ‘I’m Free!’ catchphrase. He was loved around the globe for his unique style. John made his first appearance in Blackpool at the age of 13 at South Pier in a play called Freda.
