Celebrated American guitarist and singer-songwriter John Mayer recently admitted to the media that he has a ‘crush’ on American television actress and tabloid talk-show hostess, Ricki Lake. However, Lake insisted that the couple had nothing beyond ordinary friendship going between them.
Incidentally, Mayer split with American pop/country singer and actress, Jessica Simpson earlier this year. Since September, he has been dating Minka Kelly, the Friday Night Lights star.
The possibility of a romantic angle to the relationship between Mayer, 30, and Lake, 39, was first brought to surface last week by New York Post’s Page Six, after the duo had talked and exchanged phone numbers at a Manhattan party.
However, Lake, a single mom, has vehemently denied any reports of her having an affair with the guitarist. Talking to a PEOPLE reporter during a photoshoot for the magazine, Lake said,
I swear to God, there is no story. I met him at a party. He admitted he had a crush and I admitted, hey, vice versa. That was it. I wish there was actually something to tell. There was nothing. He (Mayer) was adorable. Nice. [But] I’ve been more intimate with you than I was with him.
The actress jokingly added that even if there had been something cooking between herself and Mayer, it had been killed off by the excessive media attention.
Lake and Mayer did not meet each other when both attended events for John C. Reilly’s new film, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. While Mayer caught up with other friends at the afterparty at Social Hollywood, Lake, who attended the premiere of the film, again rubbished all stories of a probable affair between Mayer and herself. The entire incident was described as ‘completely overblown’ by the actress.
