johnny cashs house blazes 14

The famous lakeside Tennessee home of late country music superstar Johnny Cash has been destroyed in a fire. The house was being renovated for its new owner Bee Gee Barry Gibb, when the house caught fire.

Late Johnny Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash, stayed in the house from 1968 until their deaths, months apart, in the year 2003.

The cause of the fire, which injured a fire fighter, has not yet been identified. Because the construction workers had recently applied a flammable wood preservative to the exterior of the house, the house was reduced to ashes in a few hours. The only remains of the house were its stone chimneys.

Country singer Marty Stuart, a neighbour was quoted saying,

So many prominent things and prominent people in American history took place in that house – everyone from Billy Graham to Bob Dylan went into that house. It was a sanctuary and a fortress for him. There was a lot of writing that took place there. The Folsom Prison prison record came from there, the San Quentin record, The Holy Land, the Man in Black book came from there.
