Angelina Jolie was shocked by the attacks on pop star Madonna over the controversial adoption of a Malawian boy David Banda. Jolie said that this is actually a misrepresentation of facts as she also said many positive things that were omitted.

On Monday Jolie said in a statement issued in New York,

The article included many falsehoods. I said many positive things that were omitted. I feel we must focus on the present and I encourage everyone to be supportive so that every child can adjust nicely to their new home.

However, Angie expressed some sympathy for pop queen Madonna but suggested that Madonna took a risk when she adopted a child from a country with unclear adoption laws.

The 31-year-old actress was quoted saying in last week’s edition of Gala, a gossip magazine,

Madonna knew the situation in Malawi, where he was born. In that country, there isn’t really a legal framework for adopting. Personally, I prefer to stay on the side of the law.

Madonna and husband, British film director Guy Ritchie, signed interim adoption papers for one-year old David, when the couple visited Malawi in October on what they said was a humanitarian mission to help orphans.

Under the interim order, David Banda was to stay with Madonna for 18 months during which time his progress would be monitored by Malawian officials before deciding whether final approval may be given for him to remain with her family.
