Kate Winslet and husband Sam Mendes are the latest victim of the seven-year itch syndrome. The Oscar-winning couple stunned everyone with the sad announcement of their split today. The two were married on May 24, 2003 and have one son, Joe Alfie together. Winslet also has a daughter, Mia, from her first marriage to director Jim Threapleton.
Here’s the statement given by their lawyers, according to BBC,
Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year. The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children. They ask that the media respect the privacy of the family.
Though Kate had given hints of their differences by turning up at the Oscars without Mendes, I’ve to admit that I was totally not ready for this. Maybe they both just need a short break from each other. If this is the case then I sincerely pray that they take two instead of one, but to unite again.
