KFC might switch over to soybean oil

soy oil 7Yesterday KFC announced the slash Trans fats from its Kentucky Fried Chicken, today KFC is reported to use soybean oil as alternative cooking oil for fry chicken breasts and wings.

Frito Lays is using sunflower oil, which is rich in Omega3 fatty acids, Wendy’s is using a new blend of corn and soy oil for its French fries and now it is KFC doing the same. Previous research has shown that even soybean oil is not free from hydrogenation, yet research is going on to remove the need of hydrogenating soybean oil.

However, as soybean oil has become a vital ingredient in margarine, mayonnaise, and salad dressing, KFC can expect that the bland flavor of soybean oil will not interfere with the flavor of the foods. Therefore, KFC can rest assured that it is not losing its consumers.
