Krispy Kreme’s whole wheat doughnuts might face competition from gluten-free counterparts

Krispy Kreme Doughnut Company has joined the band of health-foods manufacturers as it is reported to have expanded its rolling to include doughnuts made of whole wheat and glazed with caramel sauce. The doughnut maker claims that the whole wheat doughnuts have only 180 calories, which is just 20 calories less than the original glazed doughnuts.

Doubtless that bakery brands are topping the grocery charts with healthy products, but consumers are hardly aware of the contents behind the dubious nutritional labels. At the outset when nutrition advocates had sued Dunkin’ Donuts for sugar-laden tucks, it is better for Krispy Kreme to keep the food police at bay with its health alternatives. Moreover, it was a wise investment on the part of Krispy Kreme to take advantage of the low-carb craze and perk-up its sales figure.

However, with gluten-free, whole wheat and whole grain doughnuts already on supermarket shelves, Krispy Kreme’s 180-caloried whole wheat stuff might be subjected to tough competition in terms of flavour and calorie-count.
