Legendary CBS News anchor Walter Cronkite dies

CBS News legend Walter Cronkite – “Uncle Walter” to the millions of viewers – died Friday night. As per Marlene Adler, Cronkite???s longtime chief of staff, he breathed his last breath at 7:42 p.m. at his Manhattan home surrounded by his family. He died of cerebral vascular disease. He was 92.

Cronkite will always be remembered for covering some of America’s biggest news, including the news of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963 and the lunar landing in 1969.

A former war correspondent and the true representative of the U.S. networks??? golden age, he was known for his signature sign off: “And that’s the way it is.” Cronkite was voted the ???most trusted man in America??? on two different occasions.

CBS News president Sean McManus said in a statement,

It is impossible to imagine CBS News, journalism or indeed America without Walter Cronkite. More than just the best and most trusted anchor in history, he guided America through our crises, tragedies and also our victories and greatest moments.

R.I.P. Walter Cronkite.
