Hollywood’s screenwriter and director Mel Shavelson, who directed movies like The Seven Little Foys, 1956, and romantic comedy Houseboat, has passed away at the age of 90. The cause of the death has been mentioned as natural.

Mel Shavelson would be remembered for directing movies like Houseboat, the movie which made Cary Grant and Sophia Loren star. The movie was a hit and was nominated for an Oscar, though it couldn’t win the coveted prize. Before making his advent, Shavelson worked as a writer for Bob Hope’s comedy radio show in the 1930s and later he penned down as many as 35 films’ script. Apart from writing scripts for Hollywood’s flicks Mel also wrote his autobiography, How to Succeed in Hollywood Without Really Trying, PS – You Can’t! Which was released earlier this year. Shavelson was a prolific writer and also wrote two novels and four non-fiction books.

Shavelson, born to Russian-Jewish immigrants Brooklyn, would always be remembered as a self-made person. Surely we would be missing you Mel.
