Lindsay Lohan and Annie Lennox in hearing-loss awareness campaign

lindsay lohan joins hear the world

In the days where celebrities are seldom seen to express their interest in anything except those that would generate profit for them, it is indeed great to hear popular American actress and pop singer Lindsay Lohan, along with Annie Lennox (the Academy Award-winning Scottish musician and songwriter) joining in a drive for creating awareness about the extreme importance of hearing.

The campaign, named Hear the World, features Lohan and Lennox posing for English/Canadian musician and singer, Bryan Adams. Hear the World, created by device manufacturer Phonak, also boasts of several other big names, including ???King of Calypso??? Harry Belafonte, Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone, Placido Domingo and Moby. The campaign that is meant to create awareness about the tremendous social and emotional stress of hearing loss problems, shows each celebrity in the act of trying to hear something, with their hands behind their ears.

Researches find that over 10% of the total world population suffers from hearing problems. The hear-loss problems are on the rise too???with an expected 700 million people to be affected by 2015, up from the current 500 million.

On the occasion of this campaign, Harry Belafonte, himself suffering from hearing-loss, emphasized the prime importance of hearing on one???s personality. Taking up his own example, Harry said that, as his ears gradually stopped functioning, he had to speak more loudly, giving an impression to people that he was being aggressive, when he was certainly not being so. Belafonte concluded by saying that all people should be extremely conscious and protective about hearing, to ensure they do not face auditory problems later on in life.
