Louise Swartzwalder’s king size treat to the bread-eaters

bk55The adjacent picture shows you king size “American home style” breads. These breads are made by Louise Swartzwalder’s, and the pic shows Louise’s Takoma kitchen. Louise sells her bread at farmer markets, Takoma Park and Arlington. The breads are whole soft loaves, good for roasting and making sandwiches.

There is a wide range of breads in the bakery. Alpine bread made with spelt, sesame seeds and grains, sunflower bread with both ground and whole sunflower seeds. Holmes County is a firm, flavorful white bread is traditional Ohio bread, where Swartzwalder grew up, rosemary bread and sourdough. She also makes wonderful desserts classics like, American fruit pies Apple, blueberry, cherry, and pecan, and the winter special pear-cranberry pie.

Apart from breads, she also prepares accompaniments with the bread like inter squash, baked potato and wild mushroom soups; cheese spreads made of sun-dried tomato, Boursin-style and basil walnut.

The bread weighs 1.5 pounds and costs between $2.50 and $3. All her preservatives are made from the ingredients available in the farmers markets and is therefore without any preservatives or artificial flavors. The Takoma Kitchens is a place to visit if you really want to treat yourself to freshly baked, farm style bread.
