Noted singer Madonna and the fellow devotees of a prominent Jewish mysticism movement conceived a big project dubbed Raising Malawi some years ago to provide schooling for the girls in Malawi. Now, after spending a whopping $3.8 million, the charity plan has now collapsed. A care taking board has replaced the board of directors and other officials and this included the singer and her other officials. The funds for the school seems to have been spent on providing other lavish amenities instead of catering to the basic motive. Also, plan of investing $15 million in another school for about 400 girls in Africa has also been canned.

Michael Berg, the co-director of the Kabbalah Centre and co-founder of Raising Malawi, said, in an E-mail, to all those who were a part of this project:

A thoughtful decision has been made to discontinue plans for the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls, as it was originally conceived.

Madonna has done more than she could imagine or attempt after being part of this project and this also includes adopting two children from the country. On Thursday, a hopeful Madonna was heard saying:

There???s a real education crisis in Malawi. Sixty-seven percent of girls don???t go to secondary school, and this is simply unacceptable. Our team is going to work hard to address this in every way we can.

The money, however, that went into Raising Malawi will be used for different purposes in helping these children.
