McDonalds slashes sodium-levels in fries and nuggets

Irish branch of McDonalds is reported to slash down the salt content of French fries by 50 percent. This attempt is apparently the follow-up of salt reduction in Chicken McNuggets by 30 percent and in chicken of McChicken sandwich by 20 percent.

McDonalds has not taken the initiative on own, but it has been a part of developments made by the Snack Food Council to meet consumer preferences. However, McDonalds cannot wait long for the Snack Food Council passing orders to cut down Trans fats.

McDonalds has no doubt paid attention to the slashing down of sodium levels and being transparent about the nutritional labelling, yet it has to transform its nutritional profile as far as possible to come up to Wendy’s level in rolling out better fast food. Moreover, McDonalds has to search for better substitutes to salt and fats in order to maintain the flavor profile of fries and nuggets.
