A report by a parliamentary commission has proved that medicine prices in Morocco are very high, compared to one of its neighbouring countries like Tunisia and even to France, where medicine prices are seen to be the highest in Europe.

Concerning generic medicines, the report stated that for 12 of the 14 most sold products in Morocco, Moroccan people paid about MAD 1.13 billion between 2004 and 2008. The comparison with Tunisia shows that the prices of 10 out of 13 least expensive generic medicines are much more expensive in Morocco and that the difference ranges between 6% and 153%. The report, also, found that 11 of these 14 products are 30% more expensive in Morocco compared to France.

The report also said that the prices of some medicines may be 7 times higher than their similar ones, depending on the brand, the place where they are sold from, pharmacies and hospitals.
