Mexican Marines arrest 5 Zetas in Monterrey, Soldier wounded

A Mexican marine is recovering in a hospital following a shootout outside Monterrey where five alleged members of the Zetas drug cartel were arrested.

Mexican Navy officials reported that the incident happened in Apodaca, Nuevo Leon late Monday afternoon.

Authorities reported that marines were out on patrol in the Colonia Pueblo Nuevo when they came under fire oustide a home at Calle de Río Bravo and Privada Río Rosas.

The battle ended with four men and one juvenile being arrested:

• Mario Alberto Gutiérrez Guerrero
• Francisco Esteban Díaz González
• Juan Martínez Cazarez (a) “El Chacal”
• Jesús Benigno Rivera Acosta

Authorities reported that all five men are linked to the Zetas drug cartel.

Mexican Navy officials reported that Rivera-Acosta was shot in the elbow and knee during the battle.

Authorities reported seizing two assault rifles, ammunition, marijuana and cocaine from the home.
