Michael Jackson conformed to his “showstopper” image even after his death. As soon as the news of his death broke on the internet, an overwhelming surge was witnessed in online traffic and the word “Michael Jackson” ruled the web world last night.

Google, the king of online search, buckled under the heavy pressure generated by the news of Jacko’s death and went haywire. Due to the volume of the requests, Google assumed it was under an automated attack and responded requests for information about Michael Jackson with a ‘captcha,’ compelling users to enter the squiggly letters on the screen to see the results of the search.

Twitter experienced a similar situation and literally crashed when Jackson-based Twitter traffic dramatically doubled within an hour and caused a temporary jam. It was ditto with Facebook, iTunes, YouTube and other social networking sites. In short, Jacko literally hijacked the web world last night and proved that he will always remain in our hearts as the ultimate showstopper.

I know you are smiling, Jacko!
