Michael Phelps has started to feel the heat generated by his infamous ‘bong pipe’ incident. The ‘Deep Sea Frog’ got a double stunner for the public affection that he showed towards marijuana. Reportedly, the USA Swimming Federation has suspended him for three months and Kellogg’s has declared that it will not renew its sponsorship contract with Olympic champion.
Ever since his photos (smoking marijuana in a bong pipe) were published by NOTW on Sunday, Phelps action has been under scanner and has received worldwide bashing. Well, this is the biggest disadvantage of being a celebrity. A single mistake, if it gets documented, can dig a deep grave for you. Though his crime was not that serious (not even violating the anti-doping rule), Phelps has learned a good lesson.
I feel the incident is being blown out of proportion, but then again, Phelps is the role model of millions of kids and youths and such actions are not expected from someone like him.
Anyway, the fact that he is repenting now says a lot about him. We all get carried away at some point in our lives, but fortunately, we get away with the act because we are no celebrity.
