dal vegetablesAn excellent accompaniment with rice and rotis is a single casserole called as Dalma. Dalma is a pottage of pulses and vegetables and is absolutely fat-free and very yummy.
For Dalma you need:

Yellow split peas
Potatoes
Drumstick
Eggplants
Papaya
Green Beans
Red Chilies
Crushed Onions
Crushed Garlic
Bay Leaves
Chopped Tomatoes
Freshly Ground Cumin
Turmeric Powder

Method:

Cook all the vegetables and pre-soaked split peas in 5 glasses of water, a teaspoon of turmeric powder and salt, in a pressure cooker and take care that the veggies are not overcooked. When the veggies are, cooked keep them aside. In separate wok heat oil add fennel and mustard seeds, bay leaves, crushed onions and garlic. When the garlic and onions turn golden add all the cooked veggies and pulses, give it a single boil and garnish with freshly grated coconut.
