My Kitchen: Hometown Culinary Experiences #7 – Fish in Mustard Sauce

dhara 2 Fish is an integral part of the cuisine in Orissa and there are lots of way to cook it up. It is usually cooked up with lots of spices and is served on festive occasions. Hilsa Fish in Mustard sauce is the most common delicacy in the Orissa cuisine.

Ingredients:

Fried Hilsa Fish
Mustard Sauce
Ginger-Garlic paste
Chopped Onions
Tomatoes
Turmeric Powder
Coriander Powder
Whole Red Chillies
Salt
Oil

Method:

1. Fry onions, whole red chillies in oil until brown.
2. Add ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, coriander powder and fry, the spices and condiments, stirring continuously.
3. Add fried fish fillets and add mustard sauce, cook adding water at intervals for 10 minutes, so that the spices and the fish does not stick to the bottom.
4. Add six cups of water and let it boil for 2 minutes.
5. Garnish it with mint leaves, slitted green chilies and tomatoes.

You can have the fish curry with boiled rice and sauteed spinach.
