Supermodel Naomi Campbell pleaded guilty for the charge of assaulting her maid, in Manhattan’s Criminal Court in New York.

She was found guilty of injuring her maid Ana Scolavino with her jewel-encrusted mobile phone.
She accepted that she threw the phone in a fit of rage, but said that she had no intentions of hurting her housekeeper.

The model, known for her fiery temperament has been sentenced to five days community service. In addition to this, she has been ordered to attend anger management course. Naomi will also have to pay a fine of £185, the cost of medical aid, the maid had to seek as she required four stitches after the incident.

Naomi, who was dressed very smartly in a pencil skirt, 4-inch stilltoes and a Louis Vuitton jacket, told the court, ‘I have an apartment at 500 Park Avenue. Ana Scolavino was an employee of mine. During the morning of March 30 2006, I threw a cellphone in the apartment. The cellphone hit Ana. That was an accident because I did not intend to hit her. I am advised that Ana was hurt, and I am deeply sorry about that.’

Campbell’s lawyer has requested that her community service should involve working inside, away from the gaze of media and general public. He released the following statement, ‘I pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour in court today. That’s the best way I know to say I’m sorry to Ana. I accepted responsibility and I’m prepared to take my punishment. But I’m not going to let this incident define me. The past is the past. My future holds great things and I’m getting on with my life.’
