Naxal Threat: Remembering Vinoba Bhave

I think hardly few people would remember Vinoba Bhave for the historic role played by him in ‘Bhoodan’ and ‘Dasyu Unmoolan’. Younger generation may not have heard about him. There is no mention of him in any media reports. But the people of yester years would have known about him. There is no mention of him in recent times. No political party seems to recall his good doings. Not even Indian National Congress with whom and the leadership then he worked closely during that period. No one appears to remember him now the unique way he fought these menaces of the society and did wonderful job. In my view he is still very much relevant today, as our nation feels pinch of naxalism as a big threat. Some leaders have even gone on records to say that these naxals are like terrorists. West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Eastern UP, Andhra Pradesh States are the worst suffers of this disease. Further spread has to be checked in.
Vinoba proved right when he made dacoits to surrender to the law. Vinoba made history when he asked rich villagers to part some their land holdings so that the poor and the needy could be given some share in the agricultural land so that they live with honors. Let it not be read in the history books but it should be repeated for the benefit of the society.vinoba bhave 300 wnMp8 16298

We can fight naxals in a unique way but there has to be some one like Vinoba to lead the movement and bring naxals to the table for dialogue and shunning violence. Simply fighting the naxals with guns may not lead the desired results. History is proof of the fact that by simply using the force we can not win hearts. In this case we have to really win the heart and weed out the mentally corrupt and allow others to join the main stream. As it is learnt that Naxalism has become an empire worth Rs.1500 + Crs., so we have to be very careful in our dealings with them.

All round development along with policy of taking care of aspirations of the people is very important. Leadership of the day has to reconcile this fact. Developments can not confine to cities and that too bigger ones alone will not meet clarion call. Can we push industrialists to under developed areas is another vital issue? Fiscal policies, which will encourage investments in these areas need to be well thought off. There has to be sincere efforts on the part of industry as well. Industry will need support of law and order machinery so that they are not disturbed for petty interests. Honest beginning needs to be made in this direction. Political and Society both have to be cautious in dealing with sensitivities of the people and their value systems. Larger investments, from Govt. sector and PSU culture for higher growth also needs to be looked at.

We have to take serious call on corruption in high places and especially in politics. Leaders, who are involved in corruption, certainly can not be treated like heroes. They are required to be dealt with sincerely with exemplary punishments which should become deterrent for others. There is urgent need to pass stringent laws deal with this menace. As the Govt. is keen to implement the developmental schemes to benefit all classes of society the evils of caste’s has to be fought on the ground it self. Otherwise these two things will take heavy toll.
And as mentioned earlier let there be a Vinoba to take message home amongst naxals that they also belong to people and they will be looked after well if they surrender to law of the land. Promises made have to be carried through and confidence building is very essential. The best bet is that the new Vinoba comes from naxal affected areas.
