My memories of Nepal, some 45 years back, are very pleasant. Off late, it has courted controversies like never before. Deeply under Chinese influence, it may be another Tibet. Gorkhas are no Buddhists and even Chinese are wary of their blood thirsty khukhri. So unless they want to have a massive genocide, they will rather use their team b called Maoists.
I really do not know what they are. To my ignorant self they appear to be mercenaries. Can Nepal be taken over by Taliban? I do not think so. Women are very much outdoor, there in fact they are the ones who wear pants when men folks are drinking & loafing. Besides as I said, Islam has no roots in Nepal.
It is sexually very liberal. Nepal is full of contradictions. Despite being a Hindu nation & old ties with India, there is certain hostility towards India becoming obvious from the time the king has become a commoner. A large No. of Indians settled there for generations have been migrating to India for a very long time.
If the turmoil continues the trickle may become flood. The place is also teaming with spies of all hues. Now when the rift between Maoists and others has come out in open & Kathmandu is under siege. I am anticipating a very long and cold winder and am keeping my fingers crossed.
