New Splenda-sweetened drinks follows functional-food trend

lerumA new range of Splenda-sweetened dilutable fruit beverages by the Norwegian soft drinks manufacturer Lerum claims to give the consumers only 12 kcal per 100cl and 97% fruit juice. The fruit juices will be available in mixed fruit, raspberry, grapes, and orange flavors.

As per Jan Petter Vadheim, managing director of the Lerum companies:

We were keen to use SPLENDA Sucralose in the new no-added-sugar Lerum range because we knew it would enable us to take out the added sugar, as required for our light range, and still retain the great fruity taste our customers expect from our brand.

A previous review of various products using Splenda showed a reduction in calories, making the product shelf stable and allowing uniform blending during the manufacturing process. This fruit drink is expected to live up to its claim as it reaches the retail outlets by the middle of this month.
