Three’s a charm they say. And the number brought ample luck for the chilling flick ‘No Country For Old Men’ at the 13 Critic’s Choice Awards 2007. The ceremony, held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, was named Best Picture of 2007 by the Broadcast Film Critics Association.

The movie, which topped other powerful contenders including ‘There Will Be Blood’ and ‘Into The Wild’, also bagged honors for its directors, Ethan and Joel Coen. The brothers overcame stiff opposition from ‘Sweeny Todd’ director Tim Burton and Sean Penn who directed ‘Into The Wild’.

The Miramax Films production also saw Javier Bardem walk away with the award for Best Supporting Actor piping Casey Affleck who was nominated for ‘The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford’ and Philip Seymour Hoffman who was selected for ‘Charlie Wilson’s War’.

The triple success of ‘No Country’ was trailed by ‘Juno’, ‘Hairspray’ and ‘There will Be Blood’ as all the three movies received two awards each. ‘Juno’ got Best Comedy Movie and Best Writer awards for Diablo Cody while ‘Blood’ bagged Best Actor award for Daniel Day-Lewis and Best Composer for Jonny Greenwood. Best Acting Ensemble award and Best Young Actress prize for Nikki Blonsky made ‘Hairspray’ the third movie to receive double awards at the ceremony.

However, Emily Hirsch and Vince Vaughn starrer ‘Into The Wild’, which had been noted as one of the stronger contenders went home empty-handed after having been nominated for 7 of the 18 award categories.
