Singer Olivia Newton-John has filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group Inc. claiming she is owed more than $1m (£505,000) in royalties from the Grease soundtrack album.

Newton-John, 58, who played Sandy opposite to John Travolta in the 1978 hit film, Grease, claims Universal did not pay her enough royalties. Her attorney, John Mason has said the company paid some royalties but failed to make other contractual payments.

The breach-of-contract suit was filed on Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Universal said,

the lawsuit is without merit, at the appropriate time, we expect that the court will dismiss it.

Grease was the number one movie at the box office in 1978, producing two number one songs, “Summer Nights” and “You’re the One That I Want,” both of which feature Newton-John, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as the good girl quietly lusting after the bad boy.

Olivia’s latest album, ‘Grace and Gratitude’, came after the one year anniversary of her boyfriend Patrick McDermott’s disappearance at sea.
