Anthony Minghella , director, screenwriter and Academy award winner producer has passed away following a cancer surgery. Anthony was suffering from cancer and died of hemorrhage after he was operated on his neck for it.
Anthony, 54, breathed his last in Charing Cross Hospital, in London, on Tuesday, March 18, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Choa, actor son, Max, and daughter Hannah.
Anthony was awarded by several honors in his brief lifetime. His most remarkable awards are his Oscar wins, which were given to him for his incredible direction in films, ???The English Patient??? and Jude Law starrer ???Cold Mountain???.
People close to Minghella???s have expressed their sorrow and described him as unassuming, talented, and a kind man. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and former PM Tony Blair have also expressed heartfelt sadness on his early demise.
Minghella was currently directing an adaptation of the series ???The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency??? in Botswana. The series is about a detective agency and will be aired on March 23 on BBC 1.
Indeed his untimely death is very tragic. My heart goes out to his family on this sad and unexpected loss of their family member.
