In a bizarre incident, which is set to surprise you, the Las Vegas deputy district attorney who grabbed headlines for prosecuting high-flying socialite Paris Hilton for cocaine possession was arrested over the weekend for buying a rock of cocaine, strange isn???t it. David Schubert, the 4year-old Clark County Deputy District Attorney was taken into custody in Las Vegas. He was booked on one count of cocaine possession. Pop star Bruno Mars was also prosecuted by Schubert on similar charges and Mars must be shocked to know that the man who busted him is now himself facing same charge. Schubert was released on Sunday after posting bail.
The Toronto Sun quotes Clark County District Attorney David Roger as saying to Reuters,
“I’m very disappointed to learn one of our prosecutors was allegedly buying rock cocaine. This is an individual I placed a great deal of trust in by assigning him to a state and federal drug task force. That said, he was arrested and he will be charged and prosecuted like any other individual,” he said. “We believe no one is above the law, including a deputy district attorney.”
Schubert???s trouble is set to increase and he will have to make round of court in days to come as Roger???s office would charge the attorney before turning the case over to Nevada’s attorney general.
Schubert???s case highlights that drug addiction is a menace which is not limited to law breakers only. The arrest of an attorney in a drug bust shows that the menace of drug has spread its tentacles deep within the American society and it needs tough measures to wipe it out. Are you listening, Feds?
