Peeping to death

It sounds like a story carved out from a Bollywood masala film. It has all the masala ingredients of a Bollywood film. But, the story has a different climax—unlike such films, it ended in a tragedy.

It is the story of a domestic help, Luv Shankar Sahny, who made it a practice to peep into his boss’s bedroom scenes, even at the wee hours of the day. Sahny, who has been working with this family for the last about a decade, was good at work and won the trust of his bosses, who are living in Gundecha Symphony Building, Veera Desai Road in Andheri (west) in Mumbai.

There was no complaint about his job of a domestic help. However, he had one weakness: to peep into his employer’s bedroom at night. And to facilitate this desire, he slung a rope from the terrace, descended the precariously hanging rope and stopped outside the bedroom window of his employer’s 15th floor apartment.

He has been doing it over and over again. But on August 19, luck ran out on him as while ‘in the act’, he lost his grip and fell to his death, much to the shock and dismay of his employers and their neighbours.

This is the script. In the early hours on the fateful day, his boss, a businessman, and his wife saw somebody peeping into their bedroom from the window. Shocked, they assumed it was a thief and raised alarm and yelled ‘chor chor’ (thief) and screamed for help. In the confusion, Sahny was startled and lost his grip, resulting in the fall. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead before admission.
