Freelance photographer Jay Kaycappa has been found guilty of assaulting Heather Mills-McCartney, estranged wife of Sir Paul McCartney as he attempted to click a picture of her.

32 years old Jay Kaycappa, harassed Heather Mills in a subway on Brighton seafront on 5 July 2006. Lady McCartney was jogging along the beach with her personal trainer and two friends when she was approached by Kaycappa for a shot. To avoid paparazzi, she slipped into a subway. On discovering a photographer on the end of the subway, she turned back to the other end, where she was confronted by Kaycappa. To get a picture of her, the desperate photographer grabbed her right shoulder and swung her round.

During the three day trial at Brighton Magistrates’ Court it was revealed that Kaycappa had 132 criminal convictions for dishonesty offences. He will be sentenced on 16 August.

The freelance photographer has been released on an unconditional bail and has been warned by head of the bench Juliet Smith that his sentence options would include custody also.

Lady McCartney’s spokesman Phil Hall said,

Heather is delighted that justice has been done and hopes that the photographers who pursue her on a daily basis will now leave her and her daughter alone.
