Indian politics has started the mudslinging saga yet again. While the Modi government has finalized the rail fare hike and the blame game on the former UPA government is on in full swing. Now today is set to be a red letter day in the history of Mumbai since protesters have taken to mass demonstrators outside the stations across Mumbai suburban rail network. I fact there is news of PILs being initiated to look into this hike in rail fare. The Congress party is taking any flak these days and Twitter is running with curiosity on its take on this. Sarcasm is rampant given that Indians pay so much on luxuries and yet they quiver at the thought of shelling 87-200% more on their rail costs. Mr. Fukra @MrFukra tweets, “Humshakals earns Rs 25 cr in the first 2 days; if Indians can pay for this, surely no need for the hue and cry over 14% #Railfarehike.” To add to this, Keh Ke Peheno @coolfunnytshirt tweets, “Please exempt us from the rail fare hike. Instead increase rail fare by 50% for those who have watched Humshakals. Bahut paisa h unke paas!”
While Jaitley and Modi have been on air stating that instead of a ramshackled system, a world class one could be in the making, the aam admi opines on these lines. ANI @ANI_news tweets, “What is the point of providing facilities, if poor people won’t even be able to travel through trains?- Rashid Alvi (Cong) on Rail fare hike.” Tweeple have been quick to refute such a sttamenet. Sudheendra Kulkarni @SudheenKulkarni says, “Fare hike alone can’t improve rail infrastructure. Bold structural reforms needed in Railway Ministry. Will govt show the political will?”
