Gravel-throated vocalist Rod Stewart wore an unconventional skull and cross bones tie, white trousers and a black-and-white-striped shirt for the honoring ceremony at the Buckingham Palace.

The 62-year-old singer who’s been serving the music industry since 1960’s was awarded a CBE medal as a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. The award is a step below knighthood.

In the absence of Queen Elizabeth II, who is in Belgium, Prince Charles, felicitated not only Rod Stewart, but world boxing champion Ricky Hatton and James Dyson too.

Stewart, who was in the company Penny Lancaster, his wife of two weeks, said,

It was cool. It’s a marvellous occasion.

Stewart is famous for his hits such as ‘Maggie May’ (1971), ‘You Wear It Well’ (1972), ‘Sailing’ (1975), ‘Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?’ (1978), ‘Baby Jane’ (1983) and ‘All for Love’ (1993).

Stewart is following in the footsteps of Elton John, Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney, who have all been knighted by the queen.
