The barbecued sandwiches need a bit of creativity and you can be on anywhere and same was the case with Shane O’Neil and John Unangst, who took over Roy BBQ in the Columbia City. Roy’s BBQ spreads one of the finest sandwiches in the town and they can more than satisfy you with the right roast and sauces. Well, they landed up with smoking sandwiches not by chance but it was Neil’s finery with the sandwich chops that he roasted at Three Girls Bakery and the Virginia Inn.
The buns used at Roy’s are the Columbia City Bakery bun, which are sesame seed buns, light and fluffy. As these buns are light they can hold a small amount of stuffing, but no matter what the stuffing, is it tastes great when the buns are small as you can have small portions of a variety of sandwiches. These sandwiches are also served with right accompaniments to go with. The attraction of Roy can be seen in BBQ brisket sandwich, Georgia Gold sandwich, Fish taco, baked beans and lemon cake, and the best part is that you can have all these specialties at only $19.35.
The sandwiched that tickled my taste buds enough was Georgia Gold Sandwich, which is layered with coleslaw, pulled pork and mustard-vinegar sauce…tangy enough to handle is not it? Moreover pulled pork is roasted enough to fall apart when pulled with a fork, and it just melts in your mouth with the creamy coleslaw. The fish taco is a simple but flavorful concept rolled up in sweet basa fish and coleslaw. They also serve exciting soups like beef barley, chicken tortellini or tomato carrot soup on a daily basis.
So if you are in Columbia this winter and you are hungry, Roy serves you cheap and best and you can go for exotic BBQ sandwiches or for a warm bowl of soup. If you want to go for a dessert then a generous slice of lemon cake should suffice you at $1. But with $5 for a burger, I think any soul would want for more…hey I am talking about the pork smoked and sealed in the sandwich.
