Actress Samantha Janus received substantial undisclosed damages from the Sunday Sport for its story in July claiming that the actress took part in a drug fuelled lesbian sexual orgy. The actress who plays Ronnie Mitchell in EastEnders was deeply hurt and embarrassed by the story and dragged its publishers to court for libel and misuse of private information.
The article in Sunday Sport alleged that Ms Janus was engaged in a three-hour drug fuelled lesbian sex orgy in which she invited her then boyfriend Doug Harwood and a female friend to participate with her. The article further claimed that the actress was so desperate for sex that she indulged in unprotected sex with male model Sean Moore in his car in a public street against Moore’s wishes.
Janus’ lawyer David Price said that his client never participated in any kind of sexual orgy and she never had any sexual relations with Mr. Harwood in the presence of others. She also did not have any sexual relation with Mr. Moore. Mr. Price also said that the article was accompanied with two topless photographs of Ms. Janus, which were not meant for publication. The pictures were also available for download.
Sports Newspaper limited and Interactive World Plc, which provides digital media content through mobile telephones have agreed to pay Ms. Janus substantial damage and her legal costs.
