Whaling, environmentalists contend, if allowed to continue, will change the ecology forever. They believe that unrestrained whaling has led to unsustainable whaling where more whales are killed then nature is allowed to produce.
On the other hand, countries like Japan contend that whaling is imbued in their culture, and stopping it will not only affect thousands of workers but will also hurt their religious feelings. They want permission to continue whaling within their territorial rights.
