June has been a busy month for Sophia Bush as she just launched a series of ads for the Ops clothing campaign for the fall, released two films, and began working on her seventh season of the CW hit ‘One Tree Hill’ in which she plays the key role of Brooke Davis. Throughout the past six seasons of ‘One Tree Hill’, Bush has enjoyed the developments her character has gone through and proudly described what she’s filmed thus far for the upcoming new season as “amazing”.
While Bush may love her role on the show that launched her career, at the New York premiere of her latest film ‘The Narrows’, Bush told The Cinema Source, that she sees exploring other roles as her vacation away from ‘One Tree Hill’. “Movies like this are sort of my reprieve, the show is amazing and we all love what we do, but it’s such an extended period of time that when I get to shoot something on hiatus…it’s really special”.

Special was what Bush felt her role in ‘The Narrows’ was, in which she plays Kathy, the love interest to a photography student whose attempt to find a new life leads him only to be torn between two worlds that don’t exactly collide well in New York City. “She[Kathy] seemingly has everything, but she still feels like something is missing, she has this sort of conflict within herself”. Bush was drawn to this role because she sees the idea of those who are assumed to have perfect lives not being entitled to have a need for something as an issue many people relate to.
Also this month for Bush, ‘Table For Three’, in which she stars opposite Brandon Routh in a comedy about what happens when you let a perfect couple into your life. She plays Mary, the very perky yet hilarious half of the perfect couple.
Don’t assume this former Rose Bowl Queen’s only passion is her acting career though. Sophia Bush always makes it highly evident how passionate she is on global issues. “The environment’s been something I’ve been concerned about since I was a kid”, said Bush at the annual Global Green event in Los Angeles last year, who recalls her mother being amused by her wanting to start a clean-up the beach club when she was just 12 years old. She may not have been able to do it as a child but cleaning up the beaches with others is something Sophia Bush takes pride in doing now. In 2008, Bush volunteered with Surfrider’s Foundaion to help clean the beaches of North Carolina, which to Bush is her home away from home as ‘One Tree Hill’ is filmed there. “It’s a big deal to motivate people to remember to keep our environment clean”, Bush told Avalive. “We have to change with the earth, the earth doesn’t change with us”. Bush said at the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Event, she believes that change has to come from seeing the bigger picture in your life. “You have to look out and do good for other people not just yourself or your family because if you can take the world collectively into consideration, it all evens out, everything does get better”.33ab8ci CjCo4 20111
Bush, who attended the University of Southern California for three years before leaving to assume her role on ‘One Tree Hill’, emphasizes on the importance of today’s youth keeping themselves informed about the vital issues concerning the world they live in, in order to help with that needed change. “We’re the generation now that this world’s going to be entrusted to so I want to see kids smart and educated, caring about politics, and caring about the environment. Reading UsWeekly is fine, but it’s not the thing that’s going to serve you later”.
The emphasis Sophia Bush places on the importance of an education has never been hidden. “I was a total education geek. I loved school. I loved learning. I loved doing homework. All of my books and notebooks from high school are underlined and highlighted and there are notes all over the margins”. Being an education geek has definitely earned Bush great respect with her co-stars. Former ‘Melrose Place’ actress Daphne Zuniga, who plays the role of Bush’s mother on ‘One Tree Hill’ told Denise Gideon in an recent interview on One Tree Hill’s podcast that she loves working with Bush because of what she has to offer. “She’s(Sophia) one of the smartest women I’ve ever met. She’s just like this beautiful, brilliant girl.”178 fGUHd 20111
It’s safe to say that Sophia Bush is serving Hollywood and beyond just fine.
