In another shocking incident of sexual violence against women, a teenage girl was gang raped and later paraded naked in streets by armed men in Vehari, Punjab province, last week. 
According to Express Tribune, the orphan girl had been stalked by the son of a landlord and she had refused to accept his advances. He had threatened to kill her and her brother, both of them living with an old grandfather and aging uncle. On Saturday night, while her brother was not home, the girl was attacked by the landlord’s son and his four friends. She was gang raped and beat her grandfather and uncle.
Later, the rapists dragged the raped victim out into streets and made her parade there naked while accompanying her and saying aloud that she was their property. The villagers watched this nightmare but didn’t dare speak a word since the men were armed and dangerous.
Shameful as the rape and torture was, equally killing was the police’s refusal to take any serious action against the criminals. At first, the police even refused to file an FIR. But later did so. However, the culprits are still at large and villagers say that they had seen the landlord’s son present in the village after the crime.
So far, no religious party has issued any declaration against the culprits to bring them to justice according to Islamic rules. And no other official has come forward to provide justice to the victims.
