The Greek’s Grotesque Entitlement

If Greece is to be saved by the European Union and International Monetary Fund, it will have to accept tough austerity measures. Many Europeans are appalled by Greek’s request for a bailout – which is now reaching as high as $158billion over three years – because many see Greece as a nation which lied about its finances in order to get into the Euro currency and a nation where one short-sighted government after another handed out un-affordable state jobs and entitlements with no concern for public finances and debt and only concern for their reelection.

The Greeks have gotten used to an easy life. But nothing comes free. They seemed to believe that they can live on credit forever, but the bill eventually is due and now the nation is desperate. But Europeans are not going to save Greek decadence out of the generosity of their hearts. After all, why should their hardworking taxpayers pay for the laid back nature of Greeks? Why should German retire at 67 so that Greeks can retire at 61 and then also be bailed out by those Germans who wait six more years?! Of course not!

So if Greek wants help it will need to meet a rapture with its welfare state. But the thing about entitlements is that people grow, well…, entitled. And they do not want to give them up. Even when the country itself depends on it, many selfish Greeks care only about their comfort and thing that someone else should be made to pay for it. And in this case they want to burden not only fellow countrymen but all people out their borders. This gull and temerity is simply too much. If the Greeks really want to go under to save their welfare state, let them go alone. But they should not ask others to pay for it. The audacity of these people is incredible. This is why it was so angering to watch Greek protesters demand they they keep their entitlements and at the same time expect to be saved:

These socialists scum who throw Molotov rockets need to be taught a humbling lesson. Including an occasional police beating. If this is the society they want, then let them continue to march on their road to poverty and misery. But nobody should subsidize this entitlement, this grotesque entitlement, this exploitation, this looting, this pull-peddling, this vile Marxism.
