The sad story of Oscar winner Tatum O’Neal

Are all Oscar winners junkies? I am forced to ask that question after hearing of Tatum O’Meal being arrested for possessing drugs. First Amy Winehouse, than Tatum O’Neal. O’Neal, at age 10, won an Academy Award for best supporting actress for 1973’s “Paper Moon,” becoming the youngest person ever to win an Oscar. Three years later, her 350,000- U.S. dollar paycheck for “The Bad News Bears” made her Hollywood’s highest-paid child star.

She had written a book on how she had gotten rid of her heroin addiction in 2004. Now she has been arrested for carrying cocaine. She was caught by the cops exchanging money with a man.

Robert Downey Junior. Amy winehouse. Britney Spears. Why do celebs go astray? Why do they take to drugs? There is always a story of loneliness, of being lost in the jungle of the cruel entertainment world.

Tatum too has her story to tell. Her pet dog, Lena, had diesd some time ago. She says,

She got old. She got cancer. She was the fabric of our family. We had to let her go to heaven. My daughter and I had to put her down. It was too horrible for words.

I couldn’t get out of it. I was going to my psychiatrist. I was doing everything I could do. I have the disease of alcoholism. It’s lifelong. I treat it every day by going to my 12-step program.

A sad story. Of lonely people, who are too weak to withstand the tragedies of life. So they take drugs, even if it kills them.
