The Standard of Education and the Development in India

Education is said to be the foundation of a society. If a society is properly and well educated, its proper development in right direction is well assured. Here lies the key difference between us and the developed nations. Why the smaller nations of Europe, which are less resourceful than us in natural resources, are far far richer than us and our people are continuously looking for an opportunity to get a chance to go and settle in those nations whether for education or for job.

We have more than 300 universities and many thousand colleges in our country but still our bright students, who can afford, feel appreciated and happy if they get an opportunity of study and work in foreign countries. The universities in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Americas are well known for their educational standard and creativity. Our educational institutions, truly, stand nowhere in comparison of them. Our own people, who are considered elite in our country and are responsible to carry on the business of the government or other important activities, feel elevated in saying that their children are getting education in a foreign country of Europe or America. They do not feel shame accepting the fact that our country, where they are placed in responsible positions, is not a good place for their children to have education. It is a pity that our big and rich people, who have become big and rich by extracting money from our people, consider India and its people as an object to extract the benefit and enjoy it outside(in other well developed countries).

Why the children of most of the ministers, judges, bureaucrats, politicians, businessmen, or others who can afford, are studying in foreign countries(if they are able to study )than in India? It means our education is not up to the standard of foreign countries and is meant for the common Indians who have no other options. The Indian education system was established by the British for the purpose of getting skilled employees for themselves and for destroying the intellectual bone of Indians. Paradoxically our own governments are also continuing with the same policies and neglecting the education sector by treating it as inferior than the bureaucracy or any other sector or department of the government. This is done deliberately by the politicians and the bureaucrats(babus)in order to keep most of our people intellectually substandard so that their wrong doings may not be put under question by the people and they may be able to exploit the people by misusing their positions.

If a country really wants to develop, it has to invest maximum on education, because it is only education that is the key to all kind of development and progress, and, for this purpose, to attract the best brains in the education sector. Presently the best brain of the country is not, generally, attracted to the education and academics(universities and colleges)because the incentives there(perks, privileges, benefits, status, position to misuse and abuse powers, opportunity to make money and enjoy life etc etc) are not proportionally as well as in bureaucracy and other government, public and corporate services in comparison to the work. An academician has to work very hard to become a good academician although he seems doing less work. Any body can understand the energy wasted in study and the hardships in understanding the concepts because in every body’s student life study was the greatest and most difficult job. This is the reason that most of the students in any educational institution avoid hard study. On the other hand, the government officials, functionaries and employees seem to work hard because they are found moving with files but actually their work is not difficult.

Due to these reasons, the governments should attract the most intelligent and efficient brains to the academics(not educational administration) by paying them well and providing them all the status and privileges than wasting the huge money on bureaucrats, politicians and other useless jobs, if the nation’s development is really at priority. If our people are well and properly educated, without any discrimination, there will not be any problem of human right violation, inequality, poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, any health or economic inequality etc etc. Our people, if rightly educated, will be able to take care of their own problems and development and no body will be required to help them. Today, if the politicians and bureaucrats do some thing for the people they try to oblige the people by saying to them that it is they who have done some thing for the people. When the people are educated and intelligent, they will be able to understand that it is the duty of the bureaucrats and politicians to do every thing for the people because they are the servants and representatives of the people and if they are unable or unwilling to serve the people they must vacate their offices for others. To standardize the education system we have to rethink on our education policy and give utmost priority to the education sector because it is the education and education only that can show us a right path of development.
