The World of Music and Why We Enjoy It

The World of Music

Music is considered the international language of love, which can be appreciated by everyone no matter their beliefs, creed, social background, or religion. Music can be used to express feelings of sadness, joy, or simply provide a fun time to let loose.

Classical

Classical-music-instrumentsIf you appreciate mathematics, then you’ll likely enjoy classical music. Performing music stimulates the same part of the brain used when doing math. Although not everyone is a fan of math or classical music, it is considered one of our most beloved genres, which is where all styles of music originate from.

Studies have shown that those who listen to classical music perform better academically, which has even been used to help stimulate patients who suffer from Alzheimer’s and dementia. Classical music relaxes the mind and soul, which can reduce feelings of pain and improve your sleep quality. There are many different styles of classical music including Cadenza, Sonata, Concerto, and Opera. Some people fail to realize that classical music is featured in many television series and movies.

Famous directors such as Stanley Kubrick, whose film credits include Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, and The Shining, would only feature classical pieces in his films, which he believed would enlighten the viewer. Oftentimes, people find classical music more enjoyable once they learn how to physically play the instruments themselves.

Although it may initially seem difficult, the piano is one of the most respected instruments a person can learn how to play, which only takes a few months to learn the basics. If you’re interested in learning how to play, there are many piano classes for beginners.

Blues

Nearly all mainstream music’s roots originate from blues, which is one of the most emotionally intense genres of music. Blue is not a one-dimensional genre of music, it incorporates many styles, textures, and chord progressions, which has been around for more than one hundred years.

The genre originated in the Mississippi Delta, which was a deeply spiritual style of music that evolved from African-chants, country-dance music, and field songs. The blues more than likely got its name from “the blues devils,” which was a 17th-century expression. The expression had to do with hallucinations commonly caused by alcohol withdrawal, which oftentimes accompanied feelings of depression. Since then the blues has evolved into something much greater than sadness. Blues music conveys and allows people to express their most raw emotions, which often trigger feelings of regret, happiness, sorrow, joy, and sadness.

Jazz

Jazz-musicJazz is arguably the coolest genre of music, which is used to express a wide array of emotions. Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Miles Davis are considered some of the greatest Jazz musicians of all time; each of which helped create the musical blueprint we now know as Jazz. Jazz music helps tell a story, which the listener can then interpret. Jazz music is a meritocracy used to redefine individualism, which draws inspiration from Afro-Cuban music, classical, and ragtime. The music has far surpassed its dance club roots and grown to become a cultural phenomenon, which is celebrated and appreciated globally.

Rock ‘n’ Roll

Rock ‘n’ Roll is more than a music genre, it’s an important part of human culture, which embodies Americana, individually, and freedom. Rock ‘n’ Roll can be used to lift a person’s spirits or express feelings of heartache. The genre itself is nearly impossible to define, which has crossed over into other genres such as country music, hip-hop, and electronic.

There are hundreds of different sub-genres of Rock ‘n’ Roll, which include grunge, metal, punk, and indie rock. Since the 1940s, when the electric guitar was initially introduced, Rock ‘n’ Roll has been at the forefront of mainstream music and remained one of the most exciting and unpredictable music genres. It doesn’t matter if it’s Elvis Presley, Foo Fighters, or Fleetwood Mac, there’s at least one Rock ‘n’ Roll song you’ll more than likely appreciate.

Techno

Techno-musicNot everyone loves techno music, but that doesn’t diminish the fact that it’s one of the most popular genres of music, which is adored by millions of people and has no language. Techno music is fast, loud, and repetitive, which sets the tone of the evening and makes everyone want to dance.

The most popular styles of techno music include electro, dubstep, and house. Techno music is more than simply clicking buttons, it’s a skill that requires perfect melodic timing, which can take years to master. The DJ’s job is to set the tone of the evening by creating a beautiful electronic-landscape of sounds and melodies.
