And here’s the reason why Mel Gibson was dropped from The Hangover 2, the upcoming sequel to the comedy hit. Director Todd Phillips today clarified his decision to drop Mel Gibson by saying that the cast and crew of The Hangover 2 is like a family and unfortunately, Mel failed to register a positive response with the majority of family members.

Contactmusic reports,

Director Todd Phillips insisted on Monday that while he regards Mel Gibson as “one of our finest actors and, quite honestly, one of our finest directors,” he felt it was necessary to remove him from The Hangover 2 to keep peace among the film’s actors and crew. As reported by today’s (Wednesday) New York Post , Phillips told the 14th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala (part of the Hollywood Film Festival), ” The Hangover 2 is a family … and as much as I loved the idea [of Gibson appearing in a cameo role], a lot of people didn’t. … I didn’t want anything to come in between that family.” Phillips replaced Gibson with Liam Neeson in the cameo role of a Thailand tattoo shop operator.

Mel was supposed to play a Thailand tattoo shop operator in the movie but he failed to win the confidence of the crew and as a result was dumped by Phillips last week. It looks like Mel’s stars are not in their brightest mood lately. Anyway, I feel things are slated to undergo a change very soon because Mel has made up his mind to break his silence and give us a clear picture of what exactly happened between him and Oksana. All the best, Mel!
