Those in the Californian counties might have already withdrawn from spinach, but those who indulge in the nutrients of spinach can find a healthier alternative in chard.
Though the flavor might not be same, yet facts provide that chards might be nutritious with calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. Of course, with 313 mg of sodium and a slightly pungent flavor, it might be equally undesirable.
However, Washington Post again comes to your rescue with the following tips:
1. Steam chard and add it to salads.
2. Saute it with nuts, eggplants and lentils.
3. Add to soups and stews.
4. Toss it with pasta and pesto.
5. Substitute chards for spinach in fetayer or pies.
6. Pair it with grilled lambs.
7. Substitute it in place for spinach in gratin and introduce some oranges to enhance the flavor.
8. Go for yin yang by pairing chard with raisins, bread pieces and almonds.
