There are always two sides of a coin, ‘Heads’ and ‘Tails’. Here we are talking about the Bollywood siblings, one out of who managed to ‘Head’ while the other clutched to the ‘Tail’.

We have enlisted Top 10 Bollywood siblings who managed to top the charts while some are still struggling to find a way out.

10. Raima Sen and Riya Sen:

Grand daughter of Bengali cinema legend Suchitra Sen and daughter of a former actress Moonmoon Sen Raima Sen made her first appearance in film Godmother, a critically acclaimed success, but her minor role was overlooked by the viewers because Shabana Azmi played the leading role in it. Her next flick was Daman in which her small performance was appreciated. Her breakthrough role came when she played a leading role in the Rituparno Ghosh’s film Chokhe Bali. After playing few more average movies she gave a critically acclaimed hit in 2005 with Parineeta. Her other hit flicks encompass action thriller Dus, Bengali film Antar Mahal and her latest flick The Bong Connection.

Sister of Raima Sen, Riya Sen first appeared as a child artiste in the film Vishkanya. Her debut in Bollywood film was in Love You Hamesha, opposite Akshaye Khanna, but the film was delayed and she finally made her debut in N. Chandra’s low-budget comedy and successful flick Style. Her next comical flick was Jhankaar Beats in which she co-starred with Shayan Munshi, Juhi Chawla, Rahul Bose, Rinke Khanna and Sanjay Suri. Her other flicks encompass 003 Saazish and Qayamat: City Under Threat. But until now she mostly played guest appearances and special appearances in Bollywood and Tollywood.

9. Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna:

Daughter of legendary film stars Dimple Kapadia and Rajesh Khanna and sister of Rinke Khanna, Twinkle Khanna made her debut opposite Bobby Deol in Barsaat (1995). The film did well and she received the Filmfare Best Debut Award for her performance. Her other flicks include Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai (1998), Baadshah(1999) and Mela (2000). However, she left the industry after her marriage to Akshay Kumar but her name still comes in Bollywoods successful actors because to work with Bollywoo’s big shots like Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Govinda is a big achievement overall.

But sister of Twinkle Khanna and niece of actress Simple Kapadia, Rinke Khanna failed to prove her acting skills in Bollywood. She made her film debut with Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi (1999). Her biggest hit to date is Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai(2001) in which she played a supporting role. Her other flicks includes Jhankaar Beats (2003), Pran Jaaye Par Shaan Na Jaaye (2003), Mango Souffle (2002), Yeh Hai Jalwa (2002), Majunu (2001), Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai(2001), Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain (2001) and Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi (1999) but all failed to do well at the box office. Her last appearance was in the 2004 film Chameli.

8. Amisha Patel and Ashmit Patel:

Amisha started her career from Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000), the flick that made her star overnight. Her next hit was Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Her other famous flicks are Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar, Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai, Humraaz, Mere Jeevan Saathi, Ankahee, Aap Ki Khatir and latest flick Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd. She also won numerous awards for her acting skills especially for her debut movie Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, for which she was honored with the Zee Cine Best Female Debut Award and 2000, Sansui Viewers Choice Award “Best Debut / Face of the Year”.

Younger brother of Amisha, Ashmit Patel worked in his father’s business for a while, but like Amisha now he has also decided to work in films. Though, he appeared in numerous Bollywood flicks that includes Inteha (2003), Murder (2004), Silsiilay (2005), Nazar (2005), Banaras: A Mystic Love Story (2006), Fight Club Members Only (2006) and Dil Diya. But he still has to make his mark as an actor.

7. Akshay Khanna and Rahul Khanna:

Akshay made his debut in his father’s production Himalaya Putra at the age of 22 in 1997, but the flick failed badly at the box office. His next release was J. P. Dutta’s Border (1997), the film that ruled our silver screens for weeks and for which he was also awarded with a Filmfare Best Debut Award. Akshay’s other hits include Subhash Ghai’s Taal (1999), Dil Chahta Hai (2001) , Abbas Mustan’s Humraaz (2002), in which he played a negative role for the first time. Some of his other hits include Priyadarshan’s Hungama (2003) and Hulchul (2004). Though, he failed in his latest flicks Shaadi Se Pehle (2006) and Aap Ki Khatir (2006) but his latest flick Gandhi, My Father was highly praised by critics for his ultimate performance.

Son of famous actor Vinod Khanna and brother of Akshay Khanna, Rahul Khanna first appeared as a video jockey on MTV India and started his film career in Canadian director Deepa Mehta’s 1998 film 1947:Earth, for which he even won a Filmfare Award as Best Newcomer. His other flicks encompass Jag Mundhra’s Bawander (2000) and Mehta’s Bollywood/Hollywood (2003). He also appeared in 3 A.M (2001) and The Emperor’s Club (2002) but the flicks failed to do well at box office. According to critics he still has to work hard like his brother to enlist his name amid top Bollywood stars.

Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor:

Anil Kapoor who is rewarded with a Filmfare Best Actor Award for his hit flick Tezaab in 1998 made his Bollywood debut in the 1979 film Hamare Tumhare in a supporting role. Subsequently, he played few minor roles in films such as Hum Paanch(1980) and Shakti (1982). He got his first leading role in the 1983 Hindi film Woh Saat Din. Anil’s superhit movies encompass names like Meri Jung (1985), Karma (1986) and Mr. India(1987), the flick that gave him superstar title. Now, after giving numerous hits to box-office, Anil has turned producer with the film Gandhi, My Father, the film that focuses on the relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and his son Harilal Gandhi.

The brother of legendary actor Anil Kapoor and producer Boney Kapoor and brother-in-law of actress Sridevi, Sanjay Kapoor began his career opposite Madhuri Dixit in the film Raja. However Raja was a big box office hit by which he became a star overnight but if we put some light on his major flop flicks like Mere Sapno Ki Rani(1997), Zameer: The Awakening of a Soul (1997), Mohabbat (1997), Beqabu (1996), Kartavya (1995), Unns (2006), Sauda (2004), Jaago(2004) and LOC Kargil apparently, his name is lost from the stars list.

Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award (2007) winner, Shilpa has not only conquered Bollywood but she also proved her talent internationally by winning Celebrity show ‘Big Brother’. Shilpa started her career as a Limca model in 1991 at the age of 16, and made her first appearance in 1993 with Baazigar. Her first leading role was in the film Aag in 1994 , the flick that was averagely received at the box office. Shilpa’s big hits encompass: Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Dhadkan, Hathyar, Rishtey, Phir Milenge, Dus and Metro.

Whereas when Shilpa’s younger sister Shamita entered Bollywood people commented that she is trying to copy her sister. Both the sisters worked in Fareb but the movie turned into a big flop. Shamita made her debut with Mohabbatein, next was Bewafaa and then Zaher but the flicks flopped badly on the box-office except couple of songs whose credit goes to singers.

4. Kajol and Taneesha:

However, the acting skills of award-winning popular actress, Kajol are also hereditary but she succeeded to conquer Bollywood with her lively acting. Kajol made her acting debut with Bekhudi (1992) and had her first hit with her second film Baazigar (1993). Later she delivered some of the biggest Bollywood hits like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995) and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). She is a part of many critically and commercially successful films, and is regarded as one of India’s most successful actresses.

Taneesha who is 7-yrs younger then Kajol, started her career from ssshhh (2003). Her other flicks encompass Popcorn Khao Mast Ho Jao (2004), Tango Charlie (2005) and Neal N Nikki (2005) in which she even agreed to kiss her co-star but unluckily her flicks failed to rule box-office. However, she is quite young currently but still there is a possibility that she will rise one day with the passage of time.

3. Salman Khan and Sohail Khan:

The heights that Salman Khan has attained in Bollywood are such that his brother can never even think to catch him. Filmfare Best Debut Award winner Salu made his acting debut in the 1988 film Biwi Ho To Ais in which he played a supporting role. He played his first leading role in a Bollywood movie Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), the flick that also comes in India’s highest grossing films. His other hits include Sanam Bewafa, Patthar Ke Pho, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Karan Arjun (1995), Judwaa (1997), Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya(1998), Hum Saath-Saath Hain (1999), Biwi No.1(1999), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Tere Naam (2003), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and No Entry (2005). His recent release Partner is also doing well on the box office and can emerge as a biggest hit of the year 2007.

Son of a successful scriptwriter Salim Khan and Salman Khan’s younger brother Sohail Khan started his career as a producer and director by making his directorial debut with the 1997 action thriller Auzaar. In 2002 he wrote, produced, directed and starred in Maine Dil Tujhko Diya but the flick failed badly at the box office and he failed to launch his career as an actor. He subsequently appeared in a few more films, but all the flicks failed badly at the box office. He also produced and starred in the multi-starrer Fight Club – Members but it too was a big flop. Now, he has announced to star for the first time with both his brothers Salman and Arbaaz in Amar Akbar Anthony. Now, the question arises that whether this flick will prove him a successful director or he will endlessly try to attain success with the help of his super star brothers.

2. Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol:

Son of veteran actor Dharmendra, Sunny started his acting career in the blockbuster movie Betaab in 1983. After giving some average movies he starred in an action film Arjun (1985). The movies which shaped Sunny’s career to make him Bollywood’s popular s star are Ghayal (1990), Damini for which he got national award for his role of a lawyer, Tridev (1989), Vishwatma (1992), Imtihaan (1995), Ghatak (1996), Ziddi (1997), Border(1998) and Indian (2001). Not only this he also achieved same success in romantic and dramatic roles in films including Chaalbaaz (1989), Damini (1993), Darr (1993), Jeet (1996) and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001). Now he is appearing in his latest flick Apne with his father and brother together for the first time.

Brother of renowned star Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol made his debut as a leading man in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Barsaat for which he even won a Filmfare Best Debut Award. Bobby’s next hit flick was murder mystery Gupt: The Hidden Trut but his following film Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya failed to do well in box office and was a big flop. In 1998, Bobby starred in two films: Kareeb and Soldier and both the flicks succeeded at box office. His other hits include Badal, Ajnabee and Humraaz. No doubt he gave many hits to Bollywood by exploiting his legacy but apparently to gain same fame and name like his brother and father, he still has to work hard.

Nicknamed ‘Lolo’, the National Film Award-winner popular Indian actress Karishma Kapoor made her first appearance in Prem Qaidi and is now known as Bollywood’s most popular actress. Her commercially and critically successful films encompass Raja Hindustan, the movie that helped Karishma to win her first Filmfare Best Actress Award. Not only her hard work but her acting skills were also honored with Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award and the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Yash Chopra’s super-hit, Dil To Pagal Hai opposite Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit.

On the other hand Bollywood’s struggling star Kareena Kapoor made her first appearance in Refugee (2000), for which she even won a Filmfare Best Debut Award. Her performance in Karan Johar’s melodramatic Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham(2001) was highly praised. In addition, she starred in many films but failed to achieve box office success. Her performance in highly praised films like Dev (2004) and Omkara (2006) and she was honored with the two Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress. Though, she is also known as most versatile actresses of the industry but some directors complain that she lacks professionalism to outshine her sister.
