Top Tips for Finding Success in Your Career and Beyond

Finding Success in Your Career and Beyond

Success means many things to many different people, but all that counts is what it means to you. Success could be as simple as making a healthy breakfast for a change, or on a larger scale, that promotion you’ve always dreamed about. It doesn’t matter how large or small the success is; it still counts for your own positivity and fulfillment.

If you’re looking to find more rewarding moments and make the most out of your career and beyond, here are some top tips for how to get started.

1. Challenge Yourself and Plan Your Own Growth

growth planFinding success means knowing what you want to achieve and making plans to ensure that it happens. Planning your own goals and your own growth is key to achieving a sense of fulfillment and working towards what you want out of your career.

Challenging yourself is a great way to earn success because the challenge in itself is an accomplishment. If you’re trying to challenge yourself more, then the simple fact that you’ve tried — whether you win or lose — is a personal reward in itself.

Step out of your comfort zone as much as possible to learn new things about yourself and push yourself that little bit more. Then, make plans for your own growth, for the short-term and long-term. Think about what would make you feel more positive and more accomplished on an everyday basis in your career, as well as for the long-term. Even starting off small, you can still feel great.

2. Be Mindful and Live in the Present

If you’re concentrating too much on the bigger picture or what you’re trying to achieve in the future, then you may be missing many successes that you’re achieving in the present. Being more mindful means that you’re more attuned to what you’re doing every minute of the day and taking it one step at a time. This means it’s much easier to celebrate small rewards and success on a daily basis and truly appreciate every moment. This could be completing work faster than the day before or having a better performance in numbers.

These moments can easily be missed when you’re too focused on waiting for something or everything you don’t have rather than what you do.

3. Help Others and Contribute to Society

It can be extremely fulfilling to know that you’ve helped other people in a great way or contributed to the world in simple ways to make it a better place. This can often be the definition of success for a lot of people: how much they have given back.

On a personal level, this could be being kinder, reducing your waste to help the environment or donating items. On a career level, it could be seeking out roles that allow you to help those in need, like a therapist or a nurse studying ADN to MSN.

There are many ways you can contribute, and how you wish to do so is up to you.

4. Don’t Feel Entitled

A successful career isn’t about achieving everything you might believe you’re owed, such as a healthy paycheck. When you strip back any sense of entitlement for what you feel as though your life should be, you can more easily put a focus on things that matter, and things by which you can feel more fulfilled by without feeling as though you’re entitled to them.

5. Get to Know Yourself as Much as You Can

rewarding careerA successful and rewarding career can’t easily be achieved if you don’t know your own true self. It may sound like a simple task to be honest with yourself and what you enjoy and need, but for a lot of people, getting to know themselves truthfully and acknowledging their own true personality can be a challenge — especially if you’re trying to be something else, whether through society pressures or simply because you think another way is preferable.

Getting to know yourself is key for a successful career, in my ways. Truly understanding yourself means knowing your own motivations and how you would react to certain situations you could find yourself facing at work. It means finding success through being at peace with yourself, positive self-talk, and seeking only those situations which suit who you as a person.

To get to know yourself, try:

  • Keeping a journal
  • Answering 20 important life questions, such as ‘what would your dream life look like’
  • Writing down 10 things you like about yourself
  • Spend more time alone

Use these tips to help you onto the path to your own success.
