The host of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Ty Pennington, was arrested over the weekend by the Los Angeles Police Department and charged with driving under the influence.

He was released from jail about two hours later after posting a $5,000 bail. A court hearing is scheduled for June 4.

According to police, his blood alcohol content was .14 when he was stopped, and he faces up to six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine if convicted.

Pennington, 42, said in a statement:

I made an error in judgment. We all make mistakes, however this is about accountability. Under no circumstances should anyone consume alcohol while driving. I could have jeopardized the lives of others and I am grateful there was no accident or harm done to anyone. This was my wake-up call. I also want to apologize to my fans, ABC Television and my design team for my lapse in judgment and the embarrassment I have caused.

Even though he is a carpenter by trade, Pennington is most known as a reality TV star. Pennington originally appeared on the TLC network on Trading Spaces, before moving up to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. He has won two Emmys for his work on the show and has penned a best-selling home improvement book.
