The world’s largest processor and marketer of chicken, beef, and pork food, Tyson Foods has decided to serve antibiotic free chicken.

Tyson foods is the nation’s largest poultry producer and has assured that it will be longer using antibiotics to raise chicken that is sold fresh in stores. For the same it has even begun a $70 million advertising campaign to catch attention of consumers.

The first lot of antibiotic free chicken was shipped to stores on June 18. It will begin selling it later this week and is specially packaged with instructions of no artificial ingredient usage.

Tyson’s chief executive, Richard L. Bond said :

We’re providing mainstream consumers with products they want. Consumers will have to pay slightly more for the privilege though.

The company has given no clues of an increase in the prices of antibiotic free chicken that shoppers would see at stores but it would be below the cost consumers are willing to pay.

The other companies charge around $1.50 to $2 a pound more for boneless, skinless chicken breast without antibiotics and it is expected that the price increase for Tyson’s antibiotic-free chicken would be less than $1 a pound.

Established in 1931, now Tyson will have to spend more funds to produce the antibiotic-free chickens. The company makes a wide variety of protein-based and prepared food products at its various 123 food processing plants.

Tyson Foods is the major supplier of all Yum! Brands chains that use chicken like Kentucky Fried Chicken and Taco Bell, as well as McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Wal-Mart, Kroger, Costco, IGA, Beef O’Brady’s, small restaurant and prisons.
